The University of Rajshahi, commonly referred to as Rajshahi University (RU) is a public higher studies institution in Bangladesh. It is situated in Rajshahi, which is a city in northwest Bangladesh. The University of Rajshahi was founded in 1953. It is the second Bangladeshi University that was established in what was then East Pakistan. The sixty departments of the University are organized into ten faculties.  It is the Second-largest University in terms of academic activities and also the second oldest University in Bangladesh. Researchers of this University have put effort and played a crucial role in bringing back Bangladeshi Muslin fiber. Presently, Rajshahi University is the best research University in Bangladesh.

University and Accommodation of University of Rajshahi

Rajshahi University is located in a 305-hectare (753-acre) campus in Motihar, 3 km from the Rajshahi city center. The campus contains many mango orchards and some litchi trees. The University of Rajshahi has a well-developed Infrastructure. It has eleven large academic buildings—five for the arts, business studies, and social sciences domain; four for the science domain; and two for agricultural studies.  The central area of the Rajshahi University accessible by the main gate, dominated by the administrative building.  The Senate House is a modern mini-parliament house that has 206 fully air-conditioned rooms. It is commonly used for meetings of the senate of the University, yet it hosts national and international conferences, seminars, and symposiums. Also, a multi-treatment hospital is situated at the University campus helps students for clinical practice purposes.

For student accommodation, the University has 18 residential halls, six for females, eleven for males, and one International Dormitory. The halls are named after prominent Bangladeshi historical and cultural figures. The university authorities provide subsidized meals at the residential halls.

Student life at the University of Rajshahi

The University of Rajshahi embraces a multi-cultural environment. The Teacher-Students Center was designed to be the hub of cultural activities of the University. Orientation of newcomers, the celebration of national holidays, and the annual cultural competition are key cultural events at the university campus. Besides, the physical education department of the University has 27 instructors and is equipped with a 25,000-seat stadium, two gymnasiums, one swimming pool, four football grounds, one hockey ground, four tennis courts, two basketball courts, and a squash court. The students can indulge themselves in their favorite sport.

During the three main national days — Language Movement Day (21 February), Independence Day (26 March), and Victory Day (16 December), the University hosts public meetings, cultural programs, and political activities. Also, the main Hindu festival celebrated in the University is Saraswati Puja. The goddess of knowledge is worshiped in a central location as well as separately in many residence halls.
