About University

Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS)

The Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences is probably the most glorious institute among all medical colleges in Nepal. The concept of NAHIS was primarily conceived to meet the need of the hour which at the time was producing more competent medical professionals for the proper patient care within the country and the Nepalese Army Medical Corps (NAMC). The hospital linked to the NAIHS is the Tri Chandra Military Hospital (TCMH) was founded as early as the year 1925 A.D. reminiscing the sacrifices made by Nepalese soldiers in the First World War. This hospital deserves special mention for a few other notable accomplishments apart from the obvious. Services like fiber optics endoscope and semi-automatic pathology lab were introduced for the first time in Nepal by this medical institution thus revolutionizing the methods of diagnosis in the country. The next stepping stone of the NAIHS came in the form of a shift of upgraded services from TCMH to the SBH or the Shree Birendra Hospital at Chhauni in Kathmandu in the year 1989. Those services included MRI, multislice Helical CT and Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL). As the solemn contribution of NAIHS towards academics, College of Medicine, College of Dental, etc are run under the banner of this institution. The NAIHS is a nonprofit organization funded by the Nepalese Army Welfare plan and the Nepalese Army Welfare Planning Directorate acts as the management. The college bears affiliation to the Tribhuvan University and has gained the approval of the Nepal Medical Council.
