Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) is one of the oldest public higher educational establishments in Ukraine. It was established in 1805 as the Medical Faculty of the Kharkiv University. Later on, it was renamed Kharkiv Medical Institute and, then Kharkiv State Medical University, and finally the Kharkiv National Medical University. Since 1961, the University has been training medical personnel for Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Also, KNMU is a member of the International Association of Universities (under the aegis of UNESCO) since 1998. The National Medical Commission (NMC), World Health Organization (WHO), and General Medical Council (GMC-Uk) have acknowledged the medical training program of Kharkiv National Medical University.
Kharkiv National Medical University is the best medical University in Ukraine for international students to study medicine in Ukraine. Historically, the University was the top medical educational institution in Ukraine. The Degree of MBBS, namely the MD - General Medicine and BDS - Dentistry, Pharmacy, & Nursing of Kharkiv National Medical University is prestigious and it is recognized all over the world. International students may study medicine in English or Russian optionally. Practical training starts from the 3rd year and is arranged at government hospitals and clinics of Kharkiv city. GENERAL MEDICINE (MD/MBBS): The Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) offers MBBS for six years. The degree awarded is Doctor of Medicine (M.D. or MBBS).
PEDIATRICS: The Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) offers a pediatrics course with a course duration of six years. The degree awarded is Doctor of Medicine (pediatrician).
DENTISTRY / STOMATOLOGY: The University offers a dental course with a duration of 5 years. The degree awarded is Bachelor of dentistry (BDS).
PHARMACY: The University offers pharmacy courses for five years duration.
NURSING: The University offers a diploma course for two years duration for and a bachelor's degree with a four-year duration for nursing. The degree awarded is the Bachelor of nursing.
POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION: The Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) offers post-graduate studies in all medical fields. The duration of the study is 2 to 3 years.
FOUNDATION COURSE: This course is designed for international students who do not have the requirements for undergraduate programs. It also helps to enable students to bridge the gap between school and University. The duration of the foundation course is one year.
PRE-MEDICAL COURSE: This is a Russian intensive program for students wishing to continue their studies at the Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) or any other University in Ukraine. The duration of the preparatory course is one year. Upon successful completion, a diploma is awarded.
All these courses are in English and Russian languages, students can choose from these.
