Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University is one of the leading non-profit public medical universities in Ukraine with the 4th level of accreditation from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University was formerly known as the Lviv State Medical Institute, and before that as the Faculty of Medicine of the John Casimir University. LNMU begins from the Medical Faculty of Lviv University, which was opened in November 1784, according to the privilege of the Austrian emperor Josef II. Lviv National Medical University is named after the King Daniel of Galicia, the historical founder of the city in 1256 AD. In 2009, University celebrated its 225th anniversary.
Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University is listed in the World Health Organization (WHO) and World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). Also, it is certified by ECFMG of the USA. There is a well-organized curriculum at the University. The students of all Faculties study according to the credit-module system. There is no language restriction for students. They can study either in Ukrainian or in the English language, as per their choice. Notably, the Faculty has 500 teachers, including academicians, professors, assistant professors, assistants, and senior teachers.
The University works closely with different organizations in India, Poland, Jordan, Egypt, Bulgaria, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, and others. In 2018, the Danylo Halytsky is awarded as Grand Prix - Leader of International Activities, and also got a Gold Medal in the constitution of Implementations of Innovations in the pedagogical process for improving the quality of graduates knowledge.
The MBBS course duration at Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University involves theoretical and practical knowledge as well as the compulsory internship. The duration of the MBBS course at Lviv National Medical University is six years and it is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the World Health Organization. This includes five years of academic studies and one year of compulsory internship for the students in the affiliated hospitals of the University. The medium of instruction is entirely in the English language.

Presently, the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University has six faculties, a medical college, 78 departments (including 48 clinical departments), 14 academic buildings, 41 affiliated hospitals. The building complex of the Daniel Halytsky Lviv National Medical University is located at ul. Piekarska 52, surrounded by a park. The buildings were built in 1891-1898 according to the design of Józef Braunseis for the medical faculty of the University of Lviv. The park surrounding the buildings spans over an area of 5.4 ha. On the other side, there is a botanical garden. Besides, the University library contains more than 530000 volumes of textbooks, manuals, and other relevant medical literature. The library also has modern computer equipment.
The student hostels of the University are located near the main academic buildings. The students can be accommodated in eight hostels with all the amenities needed for studying, including internet and reading rooms, and everyday life needs including canteens, cafes, the sewing and footwear shops, barbershops, laundry, and more.
Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University provides hygienic hostel facilities to the students. Boys and girls are provided with separate floors in hostel premises. The students stay in hostels on sharing basis, i.e., 2 to 3 students in each room. The students have free internet connection for study and fun purposes at the accommodation. There is a mess facility offering fresh and nutritious meals and a variety of cuisines. Students can cook the food of choice anytime in the hostel kitchen. Also, Gymnasium and reading room are available on hostel premises. A high standard of security is provided to students at the hostel round the clock.
