Veterinary science is the science that helps in treating and curing the various diseases of birds and animals. A veterinarian is simply a medical professional who used to provide treatment to the animals and birds. A veterinary doctor uses to fulfill the requirements of pets, zoos, live stocks, and laboratory animals. It is their duty to euthanize animals.
It is mandatory for them to have soft skills, clinical skills to deal with upset pet owners.
A veterinarian should be having a good attitude and excellent communication skills for facilitating helpful interactions with pet owners and also for understanding the problems of animals.
They should have a genuine and friendly approach towards pet owners for supporting them and providing them emotional support when they need.
Time management should be efficient for a veterinarian for assuring that medical operations and surgeries in clinics and hospitals are running smoothly.
They should be technically strong for handling technical equipment and machinery for diagnosing the sick and injured animals correctly.
They should be passionate about animal welfare and wellbeing.
They should have a solid ground in Medical Science.
Subjects required: Science – Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Some colleges also require English as one of the compulsory subjects for pursuing veterinary sciences from their college.
Educational Qualification:
If you want to become a Veterinarian, it is important to have a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science with a good percentage of marks in the respective branch.
It is important that you must belong to a science background with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as a compulsory subject from a recognized college or university.
Some colleges require English as a compulsory subject and also require students to meet humanities, social science, or mathematics prerequisites.
You can also explore the field by gaining some experience in this field by joining pre-veterinary clubs before starting your DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) program.
For getting an admission in a DVM Program abroad, you need to give GRE Test and then submit your scores in the admission office.
This test evaluates your verbal, quantitative, and analytical skills and you should secure a good score in this.
You can also go for ETS (Educational Testing Service) which develops the GRE and offering a wide range of helpful materials and practice tests.
Some colleges and universities may accept the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) or VCAT (Veterinary College Admission Test) instead of GRE.
A DVM Program is a program that deals with a variety of subjects like Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Veterinary Neurobiology and Genetics, Zoology, Radiology and Parasitology.
The duration for the course is 4 years which is including 3 years of pre-clinical instruction and the final year is including clinical training.
During the final year, a candidate gets an exposure to work with animals of various types.
Some of the topics which are included in the DVM Program are as follows:

Behavior of animals
Practice of veterinary
Radiology
Food animal medicine
Parasitology
A candidate has to earn a license.
You should also not violate state laws, rules, and regulations.
When one has earned a license to work as a Veterinarian, one must ensure that you must obtain a licence from each state in which you are working because license usually do not get transferred from one state to another.
If you want to obtain specialty certification in veterinary science such as Dentistry, Surgery, Radiology, Nutrition, Emergency, and Critical Care.
You are supposed to have 3-4 years of experience or additional training to become eligible for certification, it is totally depending on the Speciality. However, these certifications are totally optional.
Important Note:
Candidates are required to qualify some of the entrance exams such as AP EAMCET, UP VETERINARY Entrance Exam, AAU VET, UPCATET, AIPVT, RPVT, OUAT, etc. for taking admission to a degree in veterinary science.
These are usually found in private hospitals and helps in providing treatment to pet animals like cats, dogs, birds etc.
These deal with illness and injuries of farm animals like cattle, sheep, pigs, horses. They used to provide proper guidance to farm owners about animal feeding, breeding, behavior, and other health problems.
They usually work on research for finding preventions of animal diseases that are transmissible among animals and between humans and animals.
These used to facilitate the medical treatment of horses.

The job of a veterinarian is not that easy it can be physically demanding, noisy, and stressful with a potential risk of infection and injury. A highly experienced and skilled veterinary doctor is well paid in India. The number of job opportunities in this field is very high. This type of job is having flexible work hours but may involve long working hours. There can be hazardous situations in many cases.
